Nikolaos Korfiatis is a Professor in the Department of Informatics at the Ionian University, specializing in Data Management. He received his undergraduate degree from the Athens University of Economics and Business (2004), continued with postgraduate studies (MEng) at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden, and obtained a PhD from Copenhagen Business School (2009). He then worked as Assistant Professor in Experimental and Behavioral Economics at the Department of Economics, University of Copenhagen (Denmark), and as Lecturer (2009–2014) in Information Systems and Databases at Goethe University Frankfurt (Federal Republic of Germany). Subsequently, he served as Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor at the University of East Anglia (UEA), Warwick Business School, and the University of Nottingham, where he retired and later joined the faculty of the Department of Informatics at the Ionian University.
His research focuses on Data Science and Business Analytics, with emphasis on unstructured data analysis, predictive modeling, consumer behavior analysis on the internet, as well as applications of Artificial Intelligence in Clinical Trials. He has published more than 100 scientific papers in leading international journals and conferences (including the European Journal of Operational Research, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Annals of Operations Research, International Journal of Operations and Production Management, International Journal of Production Research, Expert Systems with Applications, Business Strategy and the Environment, International Journal of Electronic Commerce, Journal of Business Research, Tourism Management, Annals of Tourism Research, Journal of Travel Research, Electronic Commerce Research and Applications, Computers in Human Behavior, Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology, etc.). Several of his works have received international awards, most recently the second prize for best paper in 2024 from the European Operations Management Association (EUROMA).
He has collaborated as an expert with a wide range of companies such as Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, CARIAD SE, Volkswagen AG, GlaxoSmithKline PLC, among others, and has served as reviewer for the Swiss National Science Foundation and the Research and Innovation Foundation of the Republic of Cyprus. Since 2022, he has been the lead statistical monitoring consultant for the Hellenic Cooperative Oncology Group (HeCOG), with which he has published clinical research results in top oncology journals such as the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Annals of Oncology, European Journal of Cancer, etc. As of February 2025, he serves as rapporteur for the OECD working group on measuring the impact of Artificial Intelligence (oecd.ai).
