Press Release - Successful completion of project "TRUMPET"
The Ionian University contributes to the preservation and promotion of the musical heritage of Corfu by providing innovative digital services
The TRUMPET project (full title: "Innovative digital application promoting the music tradition of Corfu"), co-financed by the European Union and implemented within the framework of the Operational Program "Ionian Islands 2014-2020", has been successfully completed. The project was implemented by the Ionian University under the scientific supervision of the Department of Informatics in collaboration with professors and researchers from the Departments of Music Studies, Archives, Library Science and Museology, and Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting.
The actions carried out within the TRUMPET project reflect one the first attempts to promote the musical culture of Corfu through the development of:
- An online digital repository in which musical cultural institutions may register musical documents (e.g. musical scores, musical material, concert programs, etc.) and, in collaboration with qualified curators, shape the way they are displayed and semantically marked. It should be noted that more than 800 musical documents from 8 institutions in Corfu have already been registered in the digital repository.
- An online platform for searching and viewing registered musical documents providing playback possibilities of multimedia material.
- A mobile application (for Android operating systems and in 5 translated versions) through which interested users may have a more friendly and direct interaction regarding the search, viewing, and multimedia playback of musical documents, may receive 'personalized' suggestions of thematic ‘music paths’ containing musical material that fits their interests, as well as get informed about musical events on the island and express an interest in participating in them.
The results of the project were presented at an open to the public information day, which was held at the Ionian Academy on September 7, 2022 with the participation of musical and cultural organizations that have contributed content to the project's digital repository.
