Dr. Iosif Polenakis is Assistant Professor at the Department of Informatics of the Ionian University in the field of Programming and Systems Software. He graduated from the Department of Informatics of the Ionian University (2012) and continued his postgraduate studies in Theoretical Computer Science at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of the University of Ioannina, from which he obtained his MSc (2014) and PhD (2019). He has worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering of the University of Ioannina (2019-2024). He has received scholarship for his doctoral thesis from the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (HFRI) and scholarship for his postdoctoral research from the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY). His research work, through his participation in research programs and projects funded by state institutions and national resources, concerns the design and implementation of integrated software systems, which, utilizing graph correlation modeling, aim at the prevention of epidemic spread of airborne pathogens, the detection and classification of malicious software, as well as the hiding of authenticity and integrity information in digital objects, with several of his works being distinguished with Best Paper Awards at international conferences.

Research Interests:

  • Epidemic Models,
  • Algorithmic Techniques for Pandemic Prevention,
  • Graph-based Techniques for Behavioral Analysis of Malicious Software,
  • Behavioral Malware Detection and Classification Techniques,
  • Information Hiding in Digital Objects,
  • Detection and Localization of Tampering in Forensic Digital Objects.
