Spyridon (Spyros) Doukakis
Spyros Doukakis currently serves as an assistant professor in the Department of Informatics at Ionian University, specializing in Digital Technologies in Education and Knowledge Transformation.
Since August 2023, he has been the Chair of the Institute of Educational Policy (IEP).
He completed his undergraduate studies in Mathematics at the University of Patras and the University of Amsterdam (with a scholarship from the State Scholarships Foundation). He also holds a second degree in Computer Science from the University of West Attica.
He has pursued postgraduate studies in Computer Communications and Networks at Leeds Beckett University, in Basic and Applied Cognitive Science through the interdisciplinary program of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), and in Studies in Education at the Hellenic Open University (HOU).
After earning a PhD in the field of education with a focus on digital technologies from the University of the Aegean, he completed his postdoctoral research in educational neuroscience at Ionian University.
Spyros Doukakis has actively participated in numerous research, European, and development projects at various institutions, including HOU, NKUA, and the National Technical University of Athens. He has also made significant contributions to projects undertaken by the IEP. His research has been published in international journals and conferences. Additionally, he is a co-author of the textbooks "Introduction to the Principles of Computer Science" for the 11th grade and "Mathematics" for the 5th grade, as well as three textbooks used in higher education.
He has worked as the head of the Department of Computer Science and Technology, Economics, and Social Sciences and as an educator at the American College of Greece, served as a special advisor for educators’ professional development at the Institute of Educational Policy and the National Center for Public Administration (EKDDA), and taught in undergraduate and postgraduate programs at HOU, the University of Thessaly, the former TEI of Athens, ASPAITE, and the Hellenic Police Academy.
He has received a Fulbright scholarship for research in the USA and has been awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award by the Harvard Club of Boston.
His research interests encompass computing education, educational neuroscience, distance education, and educational technology.
He is a member of the Greek Computer Society, the GeoGebra Institute, and the Hellenic Mathematical Society.
