1. What is the aim of the program and who is it addressed to?

The program aims to develop advanced digital skills, aligned with the DigComp 2.2 framework. It focuses on content creation, data management, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), and problem-solving. It is designed to bridge the gap between technology and other disciplines, making it ideal for professionals from various sectors (administration, tourism, law, healthcare, education, etc.) who wish to enhance their digital presence.

2. Is computer programming knowledge required?

No. The program does not require a background in computer programming. Its approach focuses on the practical utilization of digital tools rather than code development. For example, master's students learn to use "no-code" automation tools to streamline their workflows. However, an introduction is provided to the general principles governing application development and basic computer programming concepts.

3. Is the master's program distance-learning based?

Yes, the program is provided entirely through distance learning, allowing students to attend courses and fulfill their academic requirements from any location.

However, the presentation of individual projects may take place in person at the facilities of the Department of Informatics, in accordance with the decision of the MSc governing bodies.

4. How can I apply?

Candidates must submit their application online via the link https://future.ionio.gr/digapin/. The supporting documents (CV, academic degrees, transcripts, letters of recommendation, proof of English language proficiency, etc.) should be sent electronically to msc_digapin@ionio.gr in a compressed file format (.zip) or via file-sharing links (e.g., WeTransfer, Google Drive). It is recommended to reach out to the contact email in any case you are interested in the MSc program.

5. What is the duration of study and the structure of the program?

The duration of studies for the award of the Master’s Degree (MSc) is set at two (2) academic semesters. Each semester is divided into two periods (trimesters) of 9 weeks each. Part-time study options are not available.

6. Why does the program last for only a few semesters?

The two-semester duration is the result of the program's intensive design and its structure based on trimesters.

  • Trimester Structure: Each academic semester is divided into two periods (trimesters) of 9 weeks each. This allows the program to cover the curriculum intensively within shorter, condensed timeframes.

  • ECTS Credits: The program requires the completion of 60 ECTS credits for the award of the Master’s Degree (MSc). The curriculum is designed to fulfill these requirements at 30 ECTS per semester (30 in the 1st semester and 30 in the 2nd semester).

  • Targeted Focus: Because the program emphasizes the practical application of digital tools and hands-on experience through a capstone project rather than extensive academic research, students can complete their studies in a shorter time frame, focusing on the immediate application of knowledge in their professional fields.

  • Capstone Project: The completion of the final project is integrated into the fourth trimester (second semester). This allows practical training to be finalized alongside coursework without requiring extra time for an extensive master's thesis.

The brief duration does not imply reduced content, but rather an intensified, targeted training suited to the needs of professionals seeking rapid skill acquisition.

7. Can I temporarily suspend my studies (leave of absence)?

Suspension of studies is granted for one (1) academic year (two semesters).

8. What applies if I need more time for the capstone project?

You may request a study extension during the fourth trimester, which cannot exceed two (2) academic semesters. The total duration of studies in the MSc program cannot exceed four (4) academic semesters in total.

9. Which domains does the program cover?

The Master’s Degree Program (MSc) covers five pivotal, highly specialized domains, focusing on the integration and practical utilization of innovative information technologies for their digital transformation:

1. Public Administration The Public Administration sector focuses on modernizing state structures and upgrading the services provided to citizens and businesses. Through the implementation of technologies such as Electronic Governance (e-Government), open data, and advanced information systems, the program trains students to design efficient, transparent, and accessible digital processes.

Additionally, key challenges regarding data security, interoperability between different public sector entities, and bureaucracy reduction are analyzed. Students acquire the skills needed to lead digital transformation projects, improving daily life for citizens and enhancing the operational performance of the public sector.

2. Education In the domain of Education, the program delves into the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for the transformative upgrade of the learning process. Modern educational platforms, distance-learning (e-learning) tools, and interactive applications that promote participation and personalized learning for students at all academic levels are covered.

Concurrently, the analysis of educational data (Learning Analytics) and the deployment of emerging technologies—such as artificial intelligence and virtual reality in teaching—are examined. Students are trained to design modern educational content and manage educational organizations driven by technological innovation.

3. Business Administration The Business Administration sector covers the integration of advanced information systems (such as ERP, CRM, and BI) into strategic decision-making and the optimization of corporate operations. Students gain insight into how technology can boost productivity, reduce operational costs, and build new, competitive business models.

Furthermore, special emphasis is placed on Change Management and Business Analytics to forecast market trends. The program prepares executives capable of guiding enterprises through the digital age, ensuring their sustainable growth.

4. Civil Protection In the critical domain of Civil Protection, informatics plays a pivotal role in the prevention, management, and response to natural disasters and emergencies. The program focuses on the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), early warning systems, and real-time data analysis from sensors and satellite sources.

Simultaneously, the coordination of operational teams via smart communication networks and crisis scenario simulations are analyzed. Students acquire the specialized expertise required to design resilient infrastructures and make rapid, evidence-based decisions under high-pressure conditions.

5. Marketing The Marketing domain concentrates on Digital Marketing and the strategic leverage of consumer behavior data. Techniques covering Big Data analytics, algorithmic personalized advertising, and search engine/social media optimization are addressed.

Additionally, User Experience (UX) and the role of Marketing Automation in customer acquisition and retention are explored. Students learn to design and evaluate digital strategies that maximize return on investment (ROI) within today’s competitive environment.

10. How are the classes conducted and what software is used for communication?

Classes are conducted in real time (synchronous learning) via the Zoom platform, which provides an interactive environment for teaching and communication between instructors and students. Additionally, Microsoft Teams is utilized for group collaboration and assignment management.

11. Where can I find the course materials and lecture notes?

Educational materials, bibliographic references, and assignments are available through the OpenCourses platform (https://opencourses.ionio.gr/). This platform serves as a central knowledge repository for asynchronous study, allowing students to access course content whenever they wish.
