Governing Bodies & Competences

1. Department Assembly (Article 82, par. 2, Law 4957/2022)

The Department Assembly is responsible for the organization, administration, and overall management of the MSc program, specifically:

  • Appoints the members of the Steering Committee and the MSc Director (Article 81).
  • Approves the annual academic and financial report of the MSc upon proposal by the Steering Committee.
  • Assigns teaching duties to program instructors upon proposal by the Steering Committee (Article 83).
  • Appoints candidate evaluation and admission committees and approves admission lists (may be delegated to the Steering Committee).
  • Appoints thesis supervisors and three-member examination committees (may be delegated to the Steering Committee).
  • Approves curriculum amendments and course reallocations upon proposal by the Steering Committee.
  • Submits proposals to the Senate regarding modifications to the founding act, program extension, or discontinuation.
  • Confirms successful completion of studies and awards the Master's Degree (MSc).
  • Decides on student dismissals according to the Academic Regulations.

2. Director of the MSc Program (Article 81, par. 2 & Article 82, par. 4, Law 4957/2022)

Holds the rank of Professor or Associate Professor of the Department, serves on the Steering Committee, and is appointed by the Department Assembly for a two-year renewable term (up to 1 renewal):

  • Chairs the Steering Committee and convenes its meetings.
  • Proposes to the Department Assembly and university bodies all matters concerning the organization and smooth operation of the program.
  • Acts as Principal Investigator / Scientific Coordinator of the project in the Special Account for Research Funds (ELKE, Article 234).
  • Monitors the implementation of committee decisions, compliance with Academic Regulations, and budget execution.

3. Steering Committee (Article 81, par. 2 & Article 82, par. 3, Law 4957/2022)

Composed of the MSc Director and four (4) faculty members (DEP) of the Department teaching in the program and sharing relevant academic disciplines. The committee is responsible for monitoring and coordinating program operations, specifically:

  • Drafts the annual budget and its revisions (Article 84) and submits them to the ELKE Research Committee for approval.
  • Drafts the annual academic and financial report and submits it to the Department Assembly.
  • Approves program expenditures (may be delegated to the MSc Director).
  • Approves student scholarships (reciprocal or non-reciprocal) in accordance with the founding act and Study Regulations.
  • Recommends teaching workload allocations and assignments across instructor categories (Article 83).
  • Recommends invitations for Visiting Professors / Researchers to cover specialized teaching needs.
  • Drafts and submits curriculum amendments, course reallocations, and quality enhancement proposals.
  • Handles student admissions and appoints three-member thesis examination committees (if delegated by Assembly decision).
  • Performs any additional duties stipulated in the University Postgraduate Regulations or the founding decision.
